When you are overwhelmed with love (and champagne), it’s common to make rash and sometimes irresponsible decisions. We look back on the top six shortest celebrity marriages, because in the end, as the Beatles sang, money can’t buy you love!

  1. Jean Acker and Rudolph Valentino – 6 hours
In the silent film era, the marriage of these two sure created a lot of noise. Having only dated casually for two months, the two were married and promptly regretted it. Ms Acker’s regret was so sudden and her resolve so final that she locked her husband out of their hotel room on the wedding night. The two went their separate ways and as the marriage wasn’t consummated divorce proceedings began immediately. Mr Valentino, never one to dally on a broken heart, soon became engaged again while still married to Ms Acker, who then sued for bigamy. While the two made up before Mr Valentino’s sudden death, it later came to light that Ms Acker was a lesbian. Turns out Mr Valentino’s charm was so strong he managed to woo lesbians, even if it was just for a few hours.

  2. ZsaZsa Gabor and Filipe de Alba – 24 hours
ZsaZsa’s personality was as stunning as her good looks. The Hungarian American actress and socialite was a beauty pageant star with the personality to boot. Felipe de Alba was a Mexican lawyer and well known character. With 9 previous husbands under her belt ZsaZsa was intent on hitting double digits. Unfortunately as she was already married at the time of her wedding, the marriage to de Alba was immediately invalid.

  3. Britney Spears and Jason Alexander – 55 hours
Oops!…She did it again. After starting in “The New Mickey Mouse Club” Britney is the pop iconic girl next door we all grew to know and love. After things ended with Justin Timberlake, Britney rebounded with childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander. What started off as a cute reunion soon turned into wedding bells as the two eloped in a shot gun wedding in Las Vegas. Spears (and her now much stressed publicists) saw the marriage end in a record 55 hours.

  4. Cher and Gregg Allman– 9 days
What is it with singers and short marriages?? While Allman was listed in the Rolling Stones Magazines top 100 greatest singers he married Cher. Their marriage was almost as bad as their highly criticised joint album “Two the Hard Way”. After 9 days Allman decided he didn’t agree with Cher’s celebrity lifestyle and the two separated.

  5. Tracey Edmonds and Eddie Murphy – 14 days
Eddie Murphy’s rise to fame in movies like “Beverly Hills Cop” saw him introduced to his former wife Tracey Edmonds, a producer. After a tropical Bora Bora wedding their marriage started to fall apart faster than you could get rid of your jetlag from the flight.

  6. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries – 72 days
What would a list of celebrity failures be if it didn’t have a Kardashian on it? While the haters said the marriage would never last, it turns out once again they were right. The two were married in a lavish wedding where no expense was spared. As soon as the party was over there was rumours of the break up, fuelled mostly by Kim as Kris vowed to make it work. While he may have a good record in basketball, turns out Kris’s marriage game landed in a different court.
